Overview

The right trench, at the right depth, done right the first time

Underground utility work is one of those scopes where the quality of the excavation and the care taken around existing infrastructure determines whether everything works as designed, or causes expensive problems down the road. Getting depth right, protecting existing lines, and compacting backfill properly are details that matter for years after the trench is closed.

Pacific Earthworks handles trenching and underground utility installation for residential and rural properties across Southern Oregon. Whether you're running water to a new home, extending power to a shop, laying a sewer line, or installing storm and foundation drainage, we provide the excavation, trench preparation, pipe or conduit placement, backfill, and finish grade. We call 811 locates on every job without exception and dig carefully around whatever is already in the ground.

Based in Williams, we work throughout the Rogue Valley on projects ranging from short runs to a new outbuilding to full utility hookups for new construction. We coordinate with your electrician, plumber, or septic installer so the trench work fits what they need.

Questions, Answered

Underground Utilities FAQs

What underground utilities can you install?

Pacific Earthworks handles trenching and installation for water supply lines, sewer and septic runs, electrical conduit, storm drainage, and foundation drainage. Whether you're connecting a new home, adding a shop, running power to an outbuilding, or extending sewer service, we provide the excavation and trenching work the job requires.

How much does utility trenching cost in Southern Oregon?

Cost varies with the trench length and depth, soil conditions (rock is harder and slower to cut), the number of utility runs, backfill and compaction requirements, and whether the trench crosses a driveway, landscaping, or other obstacles. Short runs cost less than long cross-property lines. The most reliable way to get an accurate number is a free on-site quote, call (541) 512-5280.

Do you call for utility locates before digging?

Always. Calling 811 (Oregon's utility locate service) before any excavation is required by law and is standard practice on every Pacific Earthworks job. We request locates, review the marks, and dig carefully around existing utilities so nothing gets damaged in the process.

Can you run water, power, or septic lines for a new build or shop?

Yes. Running utilities to a new home, shop, barn, or outbuilding is one of the most common scopes we handle. Pacific Earthworks trenches the routes, sets the pipe or conduit at the correct depth, backfills and compacts properly, and grades the surface back to finished condition. We coordinate with your electrician, plumber, or septic installer to make sure the trench work lines up with what they need.

How deep do utility lines need to be buried?

Required burial depths vary by utility type. Oregon and the National Electrical Code set minimum cover depths for electrical conduit depending on conduit type and circuit voltage. Water lines are typically buried below frost depth to prevent freezing. Sewer and septic lines are set at the depth needed for proper gravity flow to the system. Pacific Earthworks digs to the depth each utility requires and follows applicable code for every run.

Do you work around landscaping and driveways?

Yes. We take care when trenching near existing landscaping, driveways, concrete, and structures. Where possible, we use compact equipment to minimize the disturbance footprint. After the utility is installed and backfilled, we restore the surface grade. Driveway and hardscape repairs are coordinated with the appropriate trades so everything is left clean.
